Kashmiris are safe in city, says new Kolkata top cop Anuj Sharma

Kolkata: The new Police Commissioner of Kolkata, Anuj Sharma, said Kashmiris are safe in the city.

After the Pulwama terror attack, officers of Kolkata Police interacted with the Kashmiris in the city and assured them to provide all kinds of cooperation.

Apart from this, Sharma said anti-crime measures and woman's safety would be the topmost priority of the police and these matters will be looked upon strictly.

Sharma took over the charge as the Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, from the former Commissioner of Police, Rajeev Kumar. Following the charge handover, Sharma met senior officers of the Kolkata Police at Lalbazar.

In the evening, while talking to the mediapersons, Sharma said Kolkata Police had done extremely well to prevent crime in the city.

To keep the good work going, he said would emphasise on anti-crime measures and women's safety.

Apart from these two concerns, he said the traffic and community policing would also be given priority.

"We will look on multiple points to make the city safe. Anti-crime measures, protection of women, community policing and traffic will be given special importance. We are bound to serve the citizens," said Sharma.

During the media interaction, Sharma was asked about the safety and security of the Kashmir residents staying in Kolkata keeping the recent Pulwama terror attack on the Central Resrve Police Force's (CRPF) convoy in mind.

Replying to the question, he said: "I believe that they are safe in the city. We have spoken to them and necessary arrangements have been made for their safety. They have been asked to get in touch with police if they feel insecure. Necessary action will be taken in this regard."
