Karim Mollah now 'fit', can go home in a few days

Karim Ali Mollah, who was admitted to the NRS Medical College and Hospital with a nail in his left eye and also a brain injury three weeks ago, has been declared fit by the doctors and will be released from the hospital within the next couple of days.
The doctors at the NRS Medical College and Hospital have given a fresh lease of life to the eight-year-old boy from South 24 Parganas who suffered critical injuries in his eye and brain while playing at an under-construction building in front of his home at Jibantala area of South 24 Parganas.
A sharp nail pierced through his left eye. He was initially denied admission by some hospitals including some state-run hospitals. The patient was later admitted to the NRS Medical College and Hospital. The doctors found that a nail pierced through his left eye and damaged a portion of the brain by breaking the frontal bone of the eye. A team was immediately formed for his treatment. He had been kept under constant monitoring by the team comprising eye surgeons, neuro surgeons, medicine doctors and others.
According to a senior official of the hospital, the baby's vision in the left eye is absolutely fine. There was an injury in his brain, as a result of which, the blood got clotted in some portions of the brain. The doctors, however, said that there is nothing to worry as the injury has been healed. A surgery was performed on his eye a day after he was admitted to the hospital and the nail was removed. The doctors said that there will be no problem in his vision but the doctors are also skeptical if the injury would have an effect on his brain.
As the treatment progressed, doctors found that the patient responded well to the treatment and the blood clot in his brain is getting cured through medicine.
The patient is fit to be discharged but the doctors are keen on conducting another MRI scan before taking the final decision in this regard. The boy also wants to go home and join school.
