The health condition of eight-year-old, Karim Mollah who was admitted to the NRS Medical College and Hospital with a nail in his eye is gradually improving, the doctors said.
He has been kept at the neuro surgical ward of the hospital. It may be mentioned that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee intervened and asked the hospital authorities do the needful to provide the boy the best treatment.
According to the doctors who have been treating the victim, there is not much problem in his eye but it is yet to be seen how the patient responds to the treatment. A sharp nail accidentally pierced his left eye when he was playing at an under-construction building in front of his home at Jibantala in South 24 Parganas on Saturday.
The patient was initially denied admission by state-run hospitals. The NRS Medical College and Hospital finally took his admission where a surgery was performed on his eye on Sunday and the nail was removed. But it had affected a portion of his brain. The doctors at the hospital said that there was a blood clot inside.
It may be mentioned that the state Health department has formed a team which will carry out an investigation into the alleged negligence by the five government-run hospitals that denied him admission.
