Kalyani University dean removed for plagiarism
KOLKATA: The Dean of the Faculty of Education at Kalyani University was temporarily removed from the post of dean after the investigation committee reportedly found plagiarism in the professor's research thesis for Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree.
The former dean had submitted a thesis titled A Comparative Study of Teaching Biology in Different Courses at Higher Secondary Level in West Bengal in March 1999 to the university authorities. In the same year he received the PhD degree and continued his professorship.
For the past two years, he has been the dean of a department at the university. However, another professor filed a complaint with the university authorities about this discrepancy. He also filed the Right to Information (RTI) regarding the thesis.
Recently, a three-member investigation committee was formed by the university authorities.
After examining the original thesis and the one written by the former dean, they reportedly stated that the latter was plagiarised. The only difference found between the two was that the latter had Biology in its title and the former had Physics in its title. According to a news publication, the former dean has denied all the charges levied on him.
