JU's M.Tech student bags 2nd position in prestigious Engg Services Examination

Kolkata: Pramit Debmallik, who is pursuing M. Tech in Civil Engineering at Jadavpur University has bagged the second position in Engineering Services Examination (IES) this year. 494 students across the country passed this all India examination conducted by the UPSC and 233 students featured in the merit list of the civil Engineering.

Debmallik, who has done his schooling from La Martiniere for Boys, has done his B. Tech in Construction Engineering at JU.

"I am presently in the first year doing my M. Tech in Civil Engineering from Jadavpur University. I expect to join the Indian Railways," he said.

He is hopeful that with his rank, his dream will come true.

Debmallik said he had prepared for the examination by diligently following the lessons in the class, solving the papers of previous years' examinations and appearing in mock tests at leading coaching institutes that offer lessons in IES.

Debmallik has a collection of several models of aircraft and has a special interest in photography. The IES examination is meant only for engineers. "The success of Bengali students in IES examination is unheard of. We are very proud of his achievement. He will inspire more and more students pursuing engineering to opt for IES. As per the UPSC, the total number of vacancies in various engineering streams like Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics and Telecommunication is 553 among which the merit list of 494 was published on Saturday evening.
