JU rally debacle: HC allows Polish student to stay in country

Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Wednesday allowed the Polish student to stay in the country, who was directed by the Foreigner Regional Registration Office (FRRO) to leave India for allegedly taking part in a CAA protest rally.

On December 19, the Polish student identified as Kamil Siedcynski, who is studying Comparative Literature in Jadavpur University, was seen walking along with the other students who were taking part in a CAA protest rally. Following this, he was called by the FRRO and was subsequently served a notice, instructing him to leave the country within 15 days.

After receiving the notice, Siedcynski moved Calcutta High Court and prayed for withdrawal of the order. During the hearing, lawyer of the Centre stated that Siedcynski has violated the Visa norms.

Earlier this month, after hearing both the parties, a stay order was given on the notice till Wednesday.

On Wednesday after the hearing, the High Court allowed Siedcynski to stay. In the observation, the High Court stated that the student was just walking beside the rally and did not take part in the rally which was organised by the students of Jadavpur University.

Someone had clicked a picture of him when he was passing from there, which led to the debacle.
