Jodhpur Park murder accused arrested

Kolkata: The prime accused of the Jodhpur park murder case, in which an elderly lady was killed, was arrested on Tuesday.

The accused identified as Debasish Banerjee was her neighbour. On April 4, an elderly woman identified as Shyamali Ghosh (75) was murdered inside her flat at Jodhpur Park. She used to live alone.

During preliminary investigation, cops were sure that more than one person were involved in the murder. Cops also said that the killers were known to her as the apartment door was not broken or tampered.

During the investigation, police found a diary in which Ghosh had written that she felt she could be murdered any day. Later, police nabbed two persons identified as gardener Swapan Mondal and caretaker Sanjib Das. During the interrogation, the duo confessed to the crime. They said someone who was known to Ghosh had given them the murder contract but they had not met this man.

During the scrutiny of mobile phone records, cops came up with Banerjee's name. It is alleged that he was trying to get all the apartments. But Ghosh refused to accept his offer. So, he decided to get rid of her.
