Jilted lover stabs housewife in Nadia

Kolkata: A housewife from Nadia was stabbed by a local youth after she refused to go into an illicit relationship with him.

The victim has been fighting for her life at Krishnanagar district hospital with several injuries on her body. The incident occurred at Debnathpur village under Tehatta police station in Nadia. It was learnt that the woman was attacked by the accused youth identified as Swapan Mondal with a knife on Thursday evening when she was returning home from a local shop.

According to the police, the victim's husband stays outside the state for professional reasons. A few months ago, the accused had given an indecent proposal to the woman but she refused to establish any relationship with him.

However, the accused started mounting pressure on her after she rejected his proposal on repeated occasions. This made the youth angry and he hatched a plan to take revenge.

From Thursday morning, the accused called up the victim several times asking her to meet him outside her house. But the woman told him that it was not possible for her to meet him. If he continues to mount pressure, she would inform police, the woman told the accused.

On Thursday evening, when she was returning home from a local shop the accused stabbed her several times.

Locals rushed the victim to a nearby hospital. The accused managed to flee the spot immediately after the incident.

Police have started a detailed probe in this regard on the basis of the complaint lodged by the victim's family members.
