Jhanak jhanak tori baaje payelia: Sanatan sings to cops in train

The cool and composed nature of the serial killer in the psychological crime thriller "Perfume" resembles the attitude of Santan Thakur as he tried to portray himself to be innocent by singing jhanak jhanak tori baaje payelia even after being arrested on charges of killing a three-year-old girl by piercing needles in her body.

In the 2006 flick the psychopath killer had murdered women for his quest for the "perfect scent", however, the exact motive of Sanatan who had killed the girl in Purulia is yet to be ascertained.

Unlike the movie, Sanatan is not a serial killer. But his behaviour has shocked the police officers as they had never heard a criminal singing songs maintaining all cool

despite knowing that he would be grilled by the police in connection with the murder in which he was "allegedly" involved.

Jhanak jhanak tori baaje payelia is a famous song of Manna Dey from the movie Mere Huzoor and according to psychologists, it cannot be sung by a person when he is arrested on charges of murder until and unless the person is having immense capacity of "controlling his or her mind".

In a video footage, Sanatan was found singing the song when the police was bringing him in transit remand from Uttar Pradesh to Purulia in an air-conditioned coach of Shaktipuja Express.

Neither was there any mark of tension on his face nor was he bothered of getting arrested in this connection. Instead, he sang songs one after the other while lying in an upper berth in a coach of the train.

It may be mentioned that Sanatan had brought in Mongala along with her three-year-old daughter within a year after the death of her wife. The accused had claimed that he had later married Mongala.

Police came to know after preliminary investigation that Sanatan had continued torturing the girl till July 17. On that day he had even pierced needles into the victim's body. He is at present in police custody for seven days and the police are trying to know from Sanatan the exact reason behind killing the girl.

According to the psychologists, there could be many reasons behind such behaviour of Sanatan even after being arrested. One of the

reasons could be that he was trying to portray himself to be innocent by singing songs in front of the policemen. At the same time, it could be

possible that he was trying to control his mind by singing the songs so that he can keep himself strong during the interrogation.

He had earlier claimed that his daughter-in-law had planned the murder of the girl. Police suspect that he claimed this to safeguard himself.
