Jewellery workshops back on track after 27 days
Kolkata: Six gold ornaments manufacturing units at Syakra Para Lane that suffered damages or developed cracks due to East-West metro construction work opened on Friday.
"I am thankful to God that we have resumed work after 27 days. We vacated our workshop on August 1, 2019," Paritosh Kar, who runs a jewellery ornament manufacturing unit situated at 95, Durga Pithuri Lane.
Approximately 74 buildings had suffered damages in Bowbazar. Traders demanded that the Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRCL), the implementing agency of East West metro project, should finish the restoration work soon.
The KMRCL had shortlisted 14 houses that are safe and residents can return to their houses. About, 18 gold ornament showrooms located on the road facing the tram line were opened on September 17. However, most of the gold ornament manufacturing units of Syakra Para Lane, Durga Pithuri Lane and Gour De Lane are still closed.
