IT employee dies after bike hits roadside railing

Kolkata: An IT professional was killed in a bike accident in New Town on Thursday.

Police came to know after speaking to some people who witnessed the incident that the youth failed to control the vehicle and hit a roadside railing.

He received severe injuries on his head. Locals went to the spot and found him writhing in pain. Police too reached the spot after receiving

information from the locals and was initially taken to a private hospital.

Later, he was shifted to Bidhannagar Sub-divisional Hospital where he was declared brought dead. The police sent the body for an autopsy.

Police found the victim's helmet at the spot and suspect that he was not wearing the same while riding the two-wheeler.

A police officer said the accident would not have turned fatal if the biker had worn a helmet. Cops also suspect that he was riding the bike at a high speed and as a result he couldn't control the bike and hit the road side railing.

It may be mentioned that the state government and the police have taken a series of steps to make people aware about safety norms that one must follow while riding two-wheelers.
