Intermittent rainfall likely in city, South Bengal districts till Friday

Kolkata: Various South Bengal districts including the city may witness intermittent rainfall in the next three days, while the North Bengal districts will receive heavy rainfall on Wednesday, predicted the Regional Meteorological Centre at Alipore on Tuesday.

According to the weather office prediction, there may be thundershower in some pockets of South Bengal. People in various districts may also witness a gusty spell of wind measuring around 50-60 km per hour.

"A low pressure trough has formed over Bay of Bengal, as a result of which there has been an incursion of moisture into the air. It may contribute to more rainfall in various South Bengal districts in the next few days," a weather official said.

The city and its adjoining areas also witnessed a rainy spell coupled with thunderstorm on Monday night. Trees fell in several parts of the state. One person reportedly died in New Town after a tree fell on him on Monday night.

There was waterlogging at some places in the city and the adjoining areas following overnight rainfall. The city on Tuesday mostly witnessed cloudy weather in South Bengal. The temperature has dropped in the city by a few notches following the rainy spell.

The highest temperature in the city remained at around 34.5 degree Celsius, one degree below the average, while the lowest temperature stood at 20.5 degree Celsius which is 6 degree below the average. The relative humidity remained between 60-91 percent.

A strong wind will also be sweeping through various parts of South Bengal and North Bengal as well in the next 24 hours. For the past few days the people in the city and South Bengal districts had been witnessing hot and humid temperature.

The districts like Nadia, Murshidabad, Birbhum, West Midnapore, East Midnapore, North 24-Parganas and South 24-Parganas may witness lightning and thundershower, while North and South Dinajpur will experience thunderstorm.
