Insurance for damaged vehicles during Sept 10 protest

Kolkata: The state Transport department has gone for a comprehensive insurance policy for all motor vehicles to give them compensation in case of any damage caused on the day of the bandh. The maximum limit for the compensation for each vehicle would be Rs 75,000.

According to a senior official of the state Transport department, the move has been taken to ensure that people go for their work fearlessly as

"the state government is always with them".

The Congress has called an all-India bandh on September 10 against the hike in the price of petroleum products.

It may be mentioned that the Mamata Banerjee government has taken several initiatives after the change of guard in the state and made it possible to remove the "bandh culture" tag from Bengal. Earlier during the erstwhile Left Front regime, bandhs in the state used to be a regular feature.

Following the direction of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the state Transport department had also foiled attempts of bandh by plying state-run buses as many as possible.

Now, the state Transport department has gone for a comprehensive insurance policy with a nationalised insurance company for all motor vehicles that may get damaged on September 10.

It has been stated that the owners of the damaged vehicles have to lodge an FIR in the concerned police station within 12 hours of the incident. Subsequently, they can claim reimbursement.

In a bid to claim the reimbursement, one has to apply to the West Bengal

Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (WBTIDCL) office which is housed at Paribahan Bhavan near Ruby Connector on Eastern Metropolitan Bypass.

It has also been stated that the reimbursement will be made within 72 hours from the date of submitting the application for the claim.
