'Indian Policy and Development' guide on state policies for civil service aspirants
Kolkata: "Indian Policy and Development", a manual for national schemes and international policies, a book authored by Saumitra Mohan, currently serving as the commissioner of school education in the state will be extremely handy for the civil service aspirants across the country as it reflects on various schemes and policies introduced both by the Centre and various state governments.
For years together there had been no comprehensive book on national policies and schemes and this prompted Mohan, an officer of WB IAS cadre of 2002 batch, to write the book.
The first edition of the book had been published in February 2017 while second and updated version was launched recently at the 43rd Kolkata International Book Fair 2019 by former Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court Girish Chandra Gupta.
The latest book provides fascinating insights into the policies and schemes of the government, which will immensely help the civil service aspirants, both in preliminary and main exams carried out by the UPSC, Mohan believes. It focuses on economic and foreign policies for aspiring other competitive examinations as well. All the social schemes about health, education, food have featured in alphabetic order under the heads of various ministries. Schemes dealing in vocational trainings for the youths are also highlighted in the book.
Various flagships projects introduced by the Mamata Banerjee government including Kanyashree and Sabuj Sathi have found place in the book. It talks about the international relations with various other countries. The book has been doing well in the market with 40,000 copies already being sold. It is also available on various e-commerce sites.
"Apart from civil services aspirants, students from various others fields including management and also teachers may read the book in their pursuit of knowledge. It is a comprehensive and all-inclusive manual of government policies and schemes covering all the pertinent topics for prelims as well as general Studies III for the UPSC main examination," Mohan said.
Mohan had earlier served as the district magistrate of Darjeeling and erstwhile unified Burdwan district and also as joint secretary in the Health and Family Welfare Department. He previously wrote a number of books regarding preparations for exams conducted by the UPSC and the state PSCs.
