Indian Dental Association to celebrate 'Oral Hygiene Day'
Kolkata: The state branch of the Indian Dental Association (IDA) will celebrate "Oral Hygiene Day" on August 1 at Dr R Ahmed Dental College and hospital, including other dental Colleges in West Bengal.
The posters and pillars will be put up inside the campus of Dr R Ahmed Dental College and Hospital to spread awareness.
Rallies will be taken out to sensitise people about oral hygiene. A special Continuing Dental Education (CDE) programme will also be organised by Dr Nitin Dani, president, Indian society of periodontology. Free oral health camps will be organised at 25 different venues across the state to provide free treatment to approximately 10,000 people.
IDA's state branch with Army hospital will conduct an awareness programme at Fort William. It will commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr G B Shankwalker, the doyen of Indian Periodontics through various programmes.
The Indian Society of Periodontology celebrates Oral Hygiene Day every year to spread awareness about the oral hygiene among people, thereby reducing occurrence of oral diseases.
The main motto of the programme is to make people aware about oral hygiene. Dr Raju Biswas, the state secretary of the IDA said West Bengal State Branch takes a pivotal role in spreading awareness regarding oral hygiene, a much neglected matter in our society till date.
"We have been awarded the 1st Prize by Indian Society of Periodontology last year. We have taken up various activities including free camps in different school, orphanage across the state in collaboration with various NGOs to maintain oral hygiene. We will distribute more than 10,000 kits like brush & toothpaste. A scientific programme has also been arranged," Dr Biswas said.
