Inauguration of Jalpaiguri Circuit House deferred

Kolkata: Cases filed with the Calcutta High Court in connection with formation of a Circuit Bench at Jalpaiguri have deferred its inauguration. The inauguration of the Circuit Bench was scheduled to be held on August 17 and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was also supposed to be present in the inaugural programme.

While leaving Nabanna on Friday, the Chief Minister said that the inauguration of the Circuit Bench is not taking place on August 17 and the programme has been deferred for the time being.

Banerjee maintained: "We have given the land for the Circuit Bench and made all preparations for the same. But cases have been filed. Whatever the Court decides will take place." The hearing in connection with the same will take place in the Court on August 17 and then the decision on the next course of action will be taken. The state Public Works Department (PWD) was in charge of constructing the Circuit Bench and senior officers of the department had taken all necessary steps to ensure timely completion of the project.
