In a first, Horasis Asia Meeting to be held in city; Shashwat Goenka to host the conference

For the first time in India, the global business forum - Horasis Asia Meeting – is going to be held in Kolkata in November.

Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), of which the Sector Head-retail of R P Sanjiv Goenka Group, Shashwat Goenka, who has become the youngest president, will be hosting the international conference in the city on November 26 and 27.

Around 500 participants from 65 countries and 150 business leaders from different parts of the country will be present in the global conference.

The diginitaries from both the country and abroad will be addressing the conference. Business leaders from US, Australia and Europe will be present in the occasion. At the same time, representatives from the ASEAN countries will also be present. "Highly influential groups of business leaders" will be discussing on the collaborative approach for sustainable growth.

Kolkata being the country's gateway to the ASEAN countries and the entire Asia, the city is considered as the ideal location "for the advancement of the region's economy". The meeting will also highlight Bengal government's policies on ease of doing business. The conference also aims to highlight the factors those drive the economic development in different sectors.

Shashwat is the fifth generation in the Goenka family to become the president of the chamber of commerce and ICC that has its headquarters in Kolkata which has some areas of key focus for the financial year 2017-18.

The chamber of commerce takes up the policy on North-Eastern region with both the Centre and the state government. This year the chamber of commerce will come up with a policy and industry reports in areas including commercialisation of bamboo for creation of better economy in the North-East.

Moreover, the chamber of commerce has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Portugal India Business Hub. At the same time, ICC also signed a MoU with the Anyang Chamber of Commerce and Industry. There is also planning of visit of business delegations to some countries.

The chamber of commerce also have plans to set up new offices in the Southern parts of the country.
