Ill car driver hits biker, both injured
Kolkata: A bike rider sustained serious injuries after a car hit him on a stretch of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Road between Chalia More and Malancha crossing on Wednesday morning. Later, it was revealed that the driver of the car sustained a sudden cardiac arrest.
According to locals, around 10:35 am on Wednesday, one Md Wasim Ali of Bansdroni was riding his bike and headed towards Garia. All of a sudden, a car bearing registration number WB -02AD 1487 hit him from behind and eventually collided with a tree on the roadside. Locals immediately rushed to Ali's aid. Some of the locals went to the car and found the driver, who was later identified as Lokenath Basu of Jubilee Park, in an unconscious state.
Ali and Basu were immediately removed to M R Bangur Hospital. Later, Basu's family members shifted him to another hospital. According to doctors, Basu sustained a sudden cardiac arrest and lost control over the car. Regent Park police station has detained both the vehicles and a case has been initiated against Basu as per legal provisions. Sources informed that Basu's charges might get dismissed if the doctors are right.
