IIT-KGP launches certificate programme for professionals

Kolkata: In a significant stride towards offering an opportunity to professionals with doctoral degrees in India and abroad to pursue impactful research, IIT Kharagpur on Tuesday formally launched a certificate programme that can be pursued side by side with a person's professional engagement. The programme as claimed by IIT Kharagpur is first of its kind in the country and globe.

"The idea behind starting this unique certificate programme 'Certificate of Excellence in Research' evolved with a number of professionals including the alumni of this institute expressing their desire to take up research work in their chosen field without leaving his/her present engagement. This research can be pursued even in distant mode," PK Das, Dean Post Graduate Studies & Research at IIT KGP said.

Each research project will be based on a proposal jointly prepared by the researcher concerned and a host faculty at the IIT-KGP and subsequently approved by the technical review committee of the institute. IIT KGP faculty in change, Sunando Dasgupta said facilities such as experimentation and computation labs and library would be made available to the researcher during his visit to the institute. The researcher, if he is very busy with his present occupation and can hardly come to the institute have to come once in a year to show his progress in the research.

"We hope to facilitate the untapped knowledge base and skill sets of these researchers which they have acquired through years' of real life problems thus oriented towards bringing out practical solutions," said PP Chakrabarti, Director of IIT KGP.

The enrolment for the program will start from July 2018.
