Husband tries to kill family, self over financial issues at Moore Avenue

Kolkata: Three persons including a six-year-old female child were found lying in a pool of blood on Tuesday night at Moor Avenue in Regent Park.

One of the injured informed her relative over phone and was removed to M R Bangur Hospital immediately.

According to the police, the head of the family identified as Atish Dipankar Naskar tried to commit suicide after trying to murder his wife Dola and daughter Adwitiya over financial crunch.

According to locals, Atish Dipankar Naskar, a transport service provider to an Information Technology (IT) company used live at 25/4 Moor Avenue with his wife and daughter.

On Tuesday night around 1:30 am, Atish slit Dola and Adwitiya's throat with a knife in an attempt to kill them when they were in deep sleep. Later, he slit his own left wrist using the same knife.

Initially, Dola was not in a condition to call the neighbours for help. However, sometime later, Dola managed to get hold of her mobile phone and called up her cousin Saurav Roy, who is a doctor at a private hospital in Jadavpur.

Upon being informed about the situation, Roy rushed to their residence and rendered them with initial first aid.

Locals were also informed and with their help, Roy rushed all of them to M R Bangur Hospital and informed the police in the morning.

"We know them as a good and happy family. It is beyond our imagination that they could do such a thing. We were not aware of any financial problems that the Naskar family faced," said a neighbour. Sources informed that the Naskar family was going through some financial trouble. As Atish was not being able to keep up with the expenses, he tried to commit suicide after killing his wife and daughter.

Police informed that Adwitiya is admitted to the Critical Care Unit (CCU) and is in a critical condition. Dola and Atish are keeping stable till the last news came in.

No complaint has been submitted to the police till Wednesday night.
