Huge cache of firearms recovered, four held in 2 separate incidents
Kolkata: A huge quantity of firearms was seized from Kultali and Diamond Harbour. Four persons have been arrested in two separate cases in this connection.
According to sources, on Monday night police personnel of Kultali police station got tipped off that a firearms factory was operational at a house in Napitkhali. Based on the information, police raided a house in the said area and found a huge cache of firearms.
Mainly small firearms were being manufactured in the factory. Sleuths found the weapons which were already packed and ready to be delivered. Two persons were found from the house, who were arrested immediately. Sleuths are now trying to know where the firearms were about to be delivered.
In another incident, the Special Operation Group (SOG) of Diamond Harbour Police District received
information about an illegal firearms factory at the Netra area in Diamond Harbour.
Police sources identified a house belonging to one Abbasuddin, where sleuths conducted a raid on Monday night. During the search, police found multiple firearms from the house.
Later, Abbasuddin admitted to his involvement in the illegal activity. Police seized two 7 mm pistols, seven 9 mm pistols, seven bullet magazines and 40 rounds of 8 mm bullets from Abbasuddin's house.
Another person identified as Zafar Ali was found hiding inside a room of the house during the search. During interrogation, Abbasuddin stated that he used to buy firearms from Ali, who originally hails from Bihar.
Sources informed that just after the Lok Sabha election dates were announced, the amount of firearms recovered is quite alarming. After the two cases of firearms recovery, every police unit of South 24-Parganas is keeping strict vigil across the district to find out if any more such illegal factories are still running.
