Howrah Police to launch road safety app today

Kolkata: The Howrah Police are going to introduce a road safety app to ensure help to commuters by ensuring a safer journey.
The app will be of immense benefit for the residents of the twin city.
The app will be launched on Thursday. Suvendu Adhikari, the state Transport minister, will be present in the inaugural programme. He will also be inaugurating the newly-built barrack and office of the Kona Traffic Guard. Arup Roy, the state Co-operation minister and Laxmi Ratan Shukla, Minister of State for the Youth Services and Sports department will also be present in the programme.
A rally on Safe Drive Save Life to create awareness on road safety will also be flagged off. The rally will be passing through different routes in the jurisdiction under the Howrah Police Commissionerate.
It may be mentioned that Howrah City Police were the first in the state after Kolkata to introduce the integrated traffic management system. The facility has enabled better monitoring of the traffic situation through a system in which network of surveillance cameras play a major role.
The integrated traffic management system is now in almost all the important roads approaching Howrah Bridge and other such thoroughfares through which, hundreds of vehicles ply everyday. Such efforts have improved the traffic management system in the twin city a lot in the past few years. It has also helped in reducing the total number of road accidents.
It may be recalled that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had launched the Safe Life Save Drive campaign to check the total number of road accidents. It helped in reducing road accidents by a good percentage.
The Howrah City Police have already organised
several programmes in this regard and the rally that will take place on Thursday will further create awareness among local people.
