Housewife's body found at in-laws' residence, kin alleges murder

Mystery shrouds the death of a housewife whose body was found hanging from the ceiling fan inside her in-laws' house at Sonarpur's Harinavi in South 24 Parganas.
The incident triggered tension in the locality. The deceased, Payel Basu Chakraborty (34) got married to Jaydip Basu around 12 years ago. The couple has a five-year-old girl. The family members of the woman alleged that her husband murdered her and hung the body from the ceiling fan. The incident triggered tension in the area on Sunday morning. The local residents said that Payel was a good natured person. On Sunday morning they came to know about the incident. When they reached the spot they found the woman's body hanging from the ceiling fan. They informed the matter to the local police station. Police recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem. The woman's family members lodged compliant at the local police station. They alleged that the husband used to torture the woman both physically and mentally at her in-laws' house.
On the basis of the complaint lodged by the deceased's family members, the police have held the accused husband and his parents for interrogation. Police came to know after interrogation that the husband took his daughter to his wife's parental house a few hours before the incident had taken place. Police are yet to ascertain exact cause of her death. They are also yet to confirm if the woman had committed suicide or if there was any foul play behind the incident.
