Houses of some residents of Bankra in Howrah were ransacked when they protested against reckless riding of motorbikes in their area. The incident took place late on Monday night.
Police said that there are some goons in the area who purposely ride recklessly to create unnecessary panic among residents.
The accused didn't pay heed to their repeated requests of not riding the high-speed bikes carelessly as it may lead to an accident at any time.
Children take the road to their schools and being a residential area, reckless riding of bikes is a threat to the lives of the residents.
Thus, they had requested the youth to stop racing on the road. Instead of paying heed to their request, the goons started riding more often.
On Monday evening, some local youth caught a member of the gang when he was racing with another member of the same gang and threatened them of taking away their bikes if they do not stop riding at a high speed.
The goons fled at that time apprehending they may get beaten up by the local people.
Later, around 20 members of the same group went to the spot and beat up some of the residents of the area. They ransacked some of the houses which it led to tension in the area.
A complaint has been lodged with the police and a probe has been initiated.
