Hospital urges state to hire professor doctors
Kolkata: Beliaghata ID Hospital authorities in the city have written to the state health department urging it to deploy professor doctors in various departments.
The Beliaghata ID Hospital, only referral hospital of enteric diseases, has been suffering from a crunch of specialized professor doctors.
A senior official of the hospital said they have written a letter to the Health department mentioning in detail how shortage of specialised doctors was affecting treatment at the hospital. It has to cater to a large number of patients from the city and adjoining districts as well who are suffering from various enteric diseases. It becomes difficult for the existing strength of doctors to monitor patients effectively.
It was learnt from the sources in the hospital, departments like general medicine, pediatric medicine, radiology and microbiology have no professor doctors. Junior doctors and the RMOs often have to meet a huge requirement of patients. Sources also said that there is a requirement of 30 senior medical officers at the hospital but the hospital has currently 18 senior medical officers while 12 posts have to be filled up. It may be mentioned here that many patients affected with dengue are undergoing treatment at the Beliaghata ID Hospital.
After being urged the health department recently deployed some more doctors in the hospital to tide over the crisis caused due to dengue situation in some pockets. Many of the patients from Habra and its adjoining areas in North 24-Parganas who were down with dengue have been admitted to the Beliaghata ID Hospital.
A senior hospital official said the staff strength and number of vacant posts of doctors need to be filled up on an immediate basis. According to the official, many patients are still undergoing treatment with dengue. It may also be mentioned here that state health department has already conducted training among the doctors and nurses to handle the dengue patients in a better way.
