Hope Hindu Hostel imbroglio will get sorted soon: Governor
Kolkata: Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi on Friday expressed his hope that the Vice-Chancellor and the state Higher Education department will solve the issue of student agitation over completion of Hindu Hostel's renovation at Presidency University (PU).
Responding to a query on student agitation at PU, the Governor, who also happens to be the Chancellor of the varsity, said: "The issue is being looked after by the Vice-Chancellor and the state Higher Education department. I hope that they will solve the issue."
It may be mentioned that students have been agitating at the administrative building of the varsity since last Friday, demanding immediate handing over of the Hindu Hostel.
State Education minister Partha Chatterjee had urged Vice-Chancellor Anuradha Lohia on Tuesday to take a humanitarian approach and complete the renovation of the Hindu Hostel as fast as possible.
On Monday, Lohia had sought another four to five months from the students to hand over the hostel after renovation. She had earlier announced that the hostel would be handed over to the students by July 15.
