HIDCO to hold 5-day fair for senior citizens at Swapno Bhor
Kolkata: Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) will organise a five-day fair for senior citizens at Swapno Bhor from September 29, in connection with International Day of Older Persons that falls on October 1.
The fair is the only one of its kind in the state. Shashi Panja, minister of state for Women and Child Development and Social Welfare, will be present at the fair on the International Day of Older Persons. The fair will remain open from 12 noon till 8 pm.
New Town has the state's only senior citizen's park called Swapno Bhor. A multi-storeyed accommodation facility for senior citizens called Snehodiya is also coming up in the area, the bookings for which have opened on Monday.
The participants will open stalls to sell their produce. They will take part in various activities. Senior citizens from outside New Town will take part in the fair as well.
There is a two-storeyed building inside Swapno Bhor. The building houses a library, an office, a library, two banquet halls and a coffee shop. There is an auditorium on the first floor. Throughout the year, senior citizens take part in cultural activities.
Swapno Bhor stands on four acres of land, where senior citizens come for morning and evening walks. Health camps are held for the senior citizens. They also take part in indoor games and competitions are held annually.
