Heavy rain alert in coastal dists
Kolkata and various South Bengal districts receive light to moderate showers
Kolkata: Kolkata and various South Bengal districts received light to moderate rainfall on Sunday.
Some of the stretches in the city were inundated due to prolonged rainfall in the afternoon. The drainage department of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) brought the situation under control within a very short time.
The Regional Meteorological Centre in Alipore on Sunday predicted heavy rainfall in the coastal districts in the next 24 hours. The weather office has also issued an alert to the fishermen
in coastal districts, urging them not to venture into the city in the next two days as low pressure trough has turned into a strong depression.
North Bengal districts are expected to receive light rainfall. There is no prediction of heavy rainfall in North Bengal.
The city may however receive scattered rainfall in the next 24 hours.
There may be lightning and thunder shower in some of the South Bengal districts on Monday.
A low-pressure trough formed over Odisha and moved towards the Gangetic West Bengal.
The low pressure trough turned into a depression leading to a moderate to heavy rainfall in the entire South Bengal.
The city's sky remained cloudy in various parts from Sunday morning.
The districts such as North 24-Parganas, Hooghly, Howrah and Nadia also received moderate rainfall throughout the day.
The coastal districts like South 24-Parganas and East Midnapore witnessed heavy rainfall.
It is presumed that in the next month, the state will receive a certain amount of rainfall which will help in overcoming the shortage of rainfall in the season.
During last June and July there had been a major deficit in the rainfall in the entire South Bengal.
The deficit-level has been reduced by a great margin following a heavy rainfall on the couple of occasions in the current month.
The weather office has also forecast scattered rainfall in the city Monday.
There may be heavy rainfall accompanied with thundershower in the coastal districts as well.
The coastal districts will receive the maximum amount of rainfall. It may be mentioned here that the weather office had already issued an alert to the costal districts
asking them to take some preventive measures to check any untoward incidents in all the beach towns of East Midnapore and South 24-Parganas.
