Headmaster under scanner for insulting National Flag
BALURGHAT: A non-bailable case was filed at North Dinajpur's Raiganj police station on Thursday against one headmaster for allegedly insulting the National Flag while celebrating Independence Day at school premises on Wednesday.
Police said the accused headmaster, Abdul Rahman Ali of Sijgram Junior High School, had not taken down the tricolour flag after sunset and thus violated the rules of 'Flag Code'.
Locals said they were being forced to inform the police after witnessing that the National Flag was not taken down even after 8 pm on the Independence Day by the school authorities. Later, the police arrived at the school and took down the flag with proper honour at night.
Locals had also registered a written complaint against the accused headmaster for insulting the National Flag. After receiving a specific complaint, police have filed a non-bailable case against him. The accused headmaster could not be contacted. Prasenjit Roy, an assistant teacher at the school, has apologised for the incident. "It was an unforced error. The responsibility of taking down the National Flag had been given to the students of Class VIII. We regret the incident," said the teacher.
