Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Friday ordered that the post-mortem of BJP Yuva Morcha leader Arjun Chowrasia, who was found dead in north Kolkata, be conducted at the Command Hospital here, following a verbal prayer on behalf of his mother.

Chowrasia was found hanging at an abandoned railway quarter in Kashipur, leading to angry protests by BJP workers and the subsequent visit by Union Home minister Amit Shah.

A division bench presided by Justice Prakash Shrivastava directed that the post-mortem of Chowrasia be conducted at the Command Hospital here.

The bench directed that the Chief Medical Officer of the Command Hospital in Alipore will form a team of doctors for the post-mortem.

The bench, also comprising Justice R Bharadwaj, directed that the Chief Judicial Magistrate of South 24-Parganas district will be present during the post-mortem and that the whole process be videographed.

It further directed the Commissioner of Kolkata Police to ensure that the body is safely taken to the Command Hospital, meant for treating defence personnel, from the state-run RG Kar Hospital in the northern part of the city.

The bench also directed the Police Commissioner to ensure the security of Chowrasia's family. It said that the matter will be taken up for hearing again on Tuesday.

Chowrasia was reportedly missing since Thursday night. The BJP leadership alleged that despite repeated requests, the police did not bother to take up the matter seriously. Chowrasia was selected by the BJP leadership to lead a motorcycle rally to welcome Shah. When the Union Home minister heard about the incident, he cancelled the programme and decided to meet his family.

On Friday morning, when the cops went to the spot to recover Chowrasia's body, BJP workers allegedly blocked them. Chowrasia's body was allegedly snatched away from the police and kept inside the room. Later, a large contingent of the police force was deployed and the body was recovered. A few people have been detained for allegedly obstructing the cops.

After meeting the family members of Chowrasia, he alleged that the BJP Yuva Morcha leader was murdered, calling it a political murder. He said: "Arjun Chowrasia was politically murdered. BJP is condemning this murder and we demand a CBI probe. The Union Home Ministry has sought a report from the West Bengal government on the incident."

Trinamool Congress MLA Atin Ghosh alleged that BJP is doing politics over this incident. On Friday, he went to the spot where BJP workers agitated and gheraoed him. Later at the Trinamool Congress office, senior party leader Chandrima Bhattacharya raised questions about how Shah was sure that it was murder before the autopsy was done.
