Hate politics the reason for BJP's downfall: Partha
Kolkata: BJP has become unpopular in Bengal for spreading hate politics and canards, Partha Chatterjee, secretary general of Trinamool Congress said on Monday.
He said in all the elections held in Bengal after the 2016 Assembly election, BJP has come out as a "distant second."
"In the 2016 Assembly election, BJP got three seats and after that in all the elections and by-elections held in Bengal, the party has secured a distant second position. But the leaders are behaving in such a way as if the party has won in the polls," he said.
Chatterjee held the poor performance of CPI-M and Congress responsible for BJP's success in Bengal. "Both Congress and CPI-M have lost credibility and that has helped BJP to get some seats," he said.
Asked about the meeting of BJP's national president in Purulia, Chatterjee said, "No one is preventing him from addressing a rally in Purulia. The state government has ordered inquiry into the unnatural death of two youths, but despite that, BJP leaders are making noise."
Chatterjee said that by spreading hate politics and canards, BJP is polluting the socio-political environment in Bengal and added that the party "will not be able to make any dent unless it talks about the development of Bengal."
"The leaders are trying to stall the development carried out by Mamata Banerjee and people of Bengal have understood this, along with BJP's attempt to malign the state government and Trinamool Congress," he added.
