Guwahati woman raped, filmed: Accused businessman arrested

Police arrested businessman Rajesh Chowdhury on Wednesday against whom a woman from Assam lodged a complaint alleging rape. Chowdhury, who is a resident of Salt Lake, was arrested on the basis of the woman's complaint. The woman, who came to the city to study cosmetology, used to stay in a flat in south Kolkata.

She claimed that Chowdhury, who is married, offered her spiked drink when she met him at a restaurant. She was allegedly raped after being taken to a guest house where she fell unconscious after consuming the drink.

He has also allegedly filmed it and threatened to upload it on social networking sites if she tried to lodge a complaint against him.

The girl alleged that he had repeatedly raped her and forced her to abort her foetus twice. Based on the complaint with the Lake police station, police arrested him.

Currently, he is being remanded in police custody till April 7, the day when he is to be produced before a city court.
