Gujarat 'cop' among 2 held from city hotel for trying to enter forcibly with sex workers

Kolkata: An alleged police official from Gujarat and one of his close aides were arrested by Beniapukur police station, after they forcibly tried to enter a hotel they had checked into, with two sex workers on Wednesday night.
The arrested individual claiming to be a police officer, has been identified as Alok Sukumar Roy, who has claimed himself to be a DSP of the civil defense unit of Gujarat police, while the other, Dipak K Daryani, has identified himself as a businessman.
The dispute began with the hotel staff not allowing the duo to enter the room with two women, whose looks gave the impression of them being sex workers. The duo, along with one Tarak Chandra Balani, had checked into the hotel on Wednesday afternoon.
They were lodged at room 301 on the third floor of the hotel. Alok and Dipak had left at around 9 p.m, only to return with the women at around 10:30 in the night.
As they moved towards the lift, they were stopped and the hotel staff insisted that they would not be allowed to take the women into their room. The duo initiated a quarrel and the hotel staff were beaten up by Alok, who claimed that he is very influential and an IPS officer.
They also misbehaved with and molested the two women who were accompanying them, when they demanded money. The women claimed that they had been brought with the promise of money. The two went to Beniapukur police station and lodged a complaint.
The hotel authorities also informed the police about the incident, following which the duo was arrested.
Alok is a resident of Aksarjod Apartment at Ramdev Nagar in Gujarat and they were supposed to leave the hotel by Thursday evening.
"They had brought the women with the promise of paying them Rs 10,000. Even our police officers, while bringing them to the police station in our van, were abused and threatened of dire consequences. Even the officer-in-charge of the police station was threatened that he would lose his job, if he was arrested," a senior police official said.
The police have recovered the identity card of Alok and have sent it to Gujarat police through e-mail for verification of his claims.
