Grandparents charged with toddler's murder
Kolkata: A three-year-old girl allegedly died of poisoning at Kankinara in Jagaddal on Thursday.
The parents of the girl allege that the grandparents killed her by poisoning. It is said the grandparents had a dispute with their son and daughter-in-law.
According to a source, Dipankar Dey lived with his wife and three-year-old daughter in a two-storied house at Kantadanga in Kankinara.
Dipankar lives on the ground floor with his family and his parents identified as Manoranjan Dey and Minati Dey used to live on the first floor. The deceased girl's mother Atrayee Dey said despite they had no relation with Manoranjan and Minati, the girl used to go to their room to which they did not object.
On Thursday, as usual the girl went her to grandparents' room. After some time, Atrayee called her daughter to come downstairs. Hearing her mother call, she went downstairs.
Atrayee saw her daughter walking down the stairs with her hands on her chest. She said the girl was feeling a pain in the chest. Atrayee asked her daughter to lie down. But after some time she noticed that her daughter was unconscious and had urinated on the bed. Immediately, the girl was rushed to Bhatpara State General Hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.
"My mother-in-law and father-in-law used to torture me since my marriage. My daughter told me that she had eaten something in their room. Later, she started having breathing problem. They have killed my daughter. I demand justice," Atrayee said.
Later, Dipankar lodged an FIR with the Jagaddal police station against his parents.
They were arrested on the basis of the complaint.
Though Dipankar and Atrayee alleged that their daughter was poisoned, sleuths are not sure about it. To know exact cause of death, the police will wait for the autopsy examination report.
