Govt to set up solar power plant at Raniganj

Kolkata: The state government has taken a decision to set up a solar power generation plant at Raniganj.

Firhad Hakim, the state Urban Development and Municipal Affairs minister, said after the cabinet meeting that a decision has been taken to set up a 10MW solar power generation plant and the move has been taken to promote the use of non-conventional form of energy.

The plant will come up on a plot of around 52-acre and the necessary steps will be taken to give a shape to the project as early as possible. It would one of the biggest solar power generation plants in the state.

It may be mentioned that the state government has also decided to set up a 10 MW solar power generation plant at Salboni in West Midnapore.

In a bid to set up the plant, the state government will be giving 41.11 acre of vested land to West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company.

The step to set up the solar power generation plants is another crucial move of the state government in developing the infrastructure to generating non-conventional form of energy.
