Governor to preside over academic court of JU
Kolkata: Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar will preside over the meeting of the academic court of Jadavpur University on Friday.
This is for the first
time in the history of Jadavpur University that the
Chancellor of the University will preside over the meeting of the court.
Snehamanju Basu, registrar of the University, said the Governor was invited to attend the meeting and he readily accepted the invitation.
The University authorities have sent the names
of the scholars, who would
be conferred DLit and
DSc at the convocation scheduled to be held on
December 24.
Their names have already been sent to Raj Bhavan.
It may be mentioned that controversy cropped up when the Governor had been to Jadavpur University on September 19 to rescue
Babul Supriyo, Union minister of state for Forest, who had been gheraoed by some students when he had gone to attend a meeting organised by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.
There was wordy duel between the minister and the students which led to the physical abuse of Supriyo.
The action of the Governor did not go well with the Trinamool Congress who described him as "overactive."
