GJM youth wing to urge Parrikar to raise Gorkhaland issue

Gorkha Janmukti Yuva Morcha (GJYM), the youth wing of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, will submit a memorandum to Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar to take necessary steps for the formation of Gorkhaland.

They will also urge S S Ahluwalia, Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, Government of India, and MP from Darjeeling to table a Bill on Gorkhaland in the Parliament.

Parrikar, accompanied by Ahluwalia, will inaugurate a model school building in Darjeeling on March 5. "We will remind the Ministers of the BJP's assurances to carve out the separate state of Gorkhaland. Minister Ahluwalia has to table a Bill on Gorkhaland" stated Arun Chettri, spokesperson, GJYM.

However, in the past, when delegations from different pro-Gorkhaland hill political parties had urged him to table a Bill, Ahluwalia had stated that it was not possible for him to do so.

Instead, he had suggested that the hill MLAs table a bill in the West Bengal Assembly.
