Girl assaulted by neighbour

Kolkata: A girl from Purbasthali area in East Burdwan was allegedly assaulted by a local youth, who has been absconding since the incident took place.

Police said the accused entered her house and committed the crime when the victim was alone.

The incident took place on Saturday evening when the family members of the victim were away from home. The victim told the police that her mother went to one of their neighbours' house when the accused came to their house. The victim opened the door as he was an acquaintance.

The accused youth allegedly shut the door from inside and abused her. He managed to flee the house when the girl cried for help.

After being alerted by the screams of the victim, locals rushed to the spot. Meanwhile, her mother was also informed.

The girl was immediately taken to Kalna sub-divisional hospital for treatment where various tests were performed on her. She suffered several injuries.

Police have already recorded the statement of the victim girl. The family members of the victim lodged a specific complaint with the local police station following the incident on Saturday. On the basis of the complaint, police have started a detailed probe in this connection. Raids are being conducted to nab the culprit who has been at large since the incident occurred.
