Giant-sized fans installed at Sealdah Station to check power consumption
Kolkata: Eastern Railway has installed two giant-sized fans replacing 15 old circulating fans at Sealdah Station to reduce consumption of power.
"To increase passengers' comfort, Eastern Railway has commissioned giant-sized fans at Sealdah station, which will provide high volume air circulation to a wider area," said an official of the Eastern Railway.
The official reiterated that two HVLS (high volume low speed) fans of 24-feet sweep were commissioned at Sealdah south section passenger hall on November 19. The blades of these giant fans have a length of 12ft.
These fans have replaced nearly 15 circulating fans from this area resulting in huge energy savings. HVLS fans are gearless BLDC (Brassless Direct Current) motor driven type with maximum 65 rpm (Revolutions per minute) speed for which these fans rotate almost noiselessly with high air flow.
Hundreds of passengers can be served with these fans at a time with breeze like air.
"Eastern Railway is also planning to install similar type of fans (three more giant fans of 24 feet sweep and 2 more fans of 16 feet sweep) at several other locations at Sealdah North passengers' concourse area soon making way for huge energy savings and passenger comfort," the official said.Eastern Railway had already installed such giant fans at Howrah station for better comfort of the passengers.
