GBDA seeks DM's help as cop refuses to register complaint
Kolkata: Gangasagar Bakkhali Development Authority (GBDA) has sought the intervention of the district magistrate (DM) of South 24-Parganas after the Gangasagar Coastal Police station refused to register a complaint lodged by the authority.
The matter has created a flutter in the district administration. It may be mentioned that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has repeatedly said that stern action would be taken against police personnel who refuse to take action against extortion and refuse to register complaints. The executive officer and member secretary of Gangasagar Bakkhali Development Authority had sent a letter (no 320/II-10/ GBDA dated 1.3.2020) to the Gangasagar Coastal police station to lodge a complaint against some extortionists who had stopped an agency from carrying out development work in the area. The officer in charge of the police station was not in his office when the bearer reached the police station with the letter. Parimal Das, sub-inspector who was the duty officer went through the letter and then refused to register the complaints. He asked the bearer that he couldn't register the complaint.
The officials of GBDA alleged that the police station had earlier refused to register another complaint on February 25 against theft of LED floodlights which had been installed in the state following the instruction of the Chief Minister. The estimated cost of the floodlights that got stolen would be around Rs 8 lakh.
The officials further alleged that the police in connivance with some corrupt timber merchants had released four vehicles carrying wood which
had been intercepted by GBDA officials.
