Four subways to be constructed at 3rd rotary of Biswa Bangla Sarani

Kolkata: To ensure safety of the pedestrians and smooth flow of traffic, four subways will be constructed at the 3rd rotary of Biswa Bangla Sarani.

Due to tremendous growth of vehicular traffic, the 3rd rotary is considered to be the busiest crossing in New Town, connecting three major arterial roads. Over the years, the volume of pedestrian traffic has also gone up by several times.

This is not only because of the fact that the population of New Town has gone up, but also because of the fact that there has been a sharp rise in the floating population. New Town has come up as a major education, business, IT and healthcare hub.

Recently, the DC, Traffic, of Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate, has also proposed the construction of underpasses at the above crossing, to ensure safety of the pedestrians and avoid traffic congestion.

It has been decided that four subways will be constructed on the four sides of the 3rd rotary. In the master plan of New Town, there is the proposal to construct 4 underpasses at the 3rd rotary of Biswa Bangla Sarani.

It may be mentioned that three underpasses have been constructed at the 6th rotary (Mangaldeep) of Biswa Bangla Sarani, in front of gate number 2 of Eco Park. Once IT major Infosys opens its office at new Town, the volume of traffic on Biswa Bangla Sarani will go up further.

Not only has the volume of vehicular traffic gone up significantly in recent times, but there is also a tendency of commuters to drive fast on the road. Hence, the construction of underpass at the most busy road of New Town has become a necessity.
