Four held with firearms

Kolkata: South 24-praganas police have arrested four miscreants and recovered firearms from their possession.

Acting on a tip off, a team of district police divided into various groups and raided various places like Kashipur, Gosaba and Joynagar and arrested the accused. Six firearms and 10 rounds of cartridges were seized.

The district police had specific information that the fire arms have been kept in various houses at different locations. After carrying out an investigation, police identified the houses. They are looking into the possible reasons behind hoarding the firearms in those houses.

Police suspect that other miscreants are also involved in the incident. The accused have admitted their guilt during the interrogation. The investigators are trying to figure if the accused were a part of any arms smuggling racket operating from the state.

The accused are being interrogated in this connection. Senior police officers in the district suspect that more firearms are being kept in other places by the accused. A detailed probe is on.
