Four held for looting cash worth Rs 45 lakh in Nadia

Kolkata: Four persons engaged to load cash in ATMs have been arrested on Sunday for allegedly looting approximately Rs 45 lakh at Nakashipara in Nadia.

According to sources, a private agency was in-charge of loading cash in the ATMs of a nationalised bank. On Friday, four persons including the driver of the agency informed the manager of the private agency that some miscreants had looted Rs 45 lakh from them at gunpoint at Arbetai, when they were on their way to load cash in an ATM at Palashipara.

They stated that since Friday morning they had loaded cash in the ATMs at Krishnanagr, Nabadwip, Nakashipara and Kaligunj. While they were moving towards Palashipara, some miscreants on two motorbikes made them stop their vehicles and threatened them at gunpoint.

Later, they took a bag containing Rs 45 lakh. As the news spread, police administration was accused as there was no security in the area. Situation took a ugly turn when the manager of the said agency lodged a complaint against four of the agency's employees for allegedly stealing Rs 45 lakh.

Investigation is on find how two bikers could stop the vehicle. Also, if they had stopped due to some circumstances question arises on why the guards did not use their firearms.

This apart, it was quite unnatural to keep the money in a bag instead of designated vault. As the sleuths found several ambiguities in the statement of the accused persons, they have been arrested.
