Former student assaults JU professor
Kolkata: A professor of the Bengali department of Jadavpur University was allegedly assaulted by a former student of the department on Friday afternoon.
The incident took place at a tea stall in front of gate number 4 of the varsity. The security guards on duty managed to catch the offender and handed him over to Jadavpur police station.
According to sources, the professor who was assaulted wrote a letter narrating the incident and submitted the same to the authorities of JU. He has informed that the person who had beaten him up was a former student of the varsity.
"We have lodged an official complaint with Jadavpur
police station on the basis of the written document by the professor. This is an offence
that has hardly ever happened in the university," Pro Vice-Chancellor of JU Pradip Ghosh said.
According to sources, the former student who passed out from the evening section in 2015, had barged into the room of the head of the department of Bengali earlier in the day and had threatened him and some other teachers.
Later, when the victim
went to the tea stall beside gate number 4 along with some other teachers, he was assaulted.
According to university sources, the offender was suffering from some mental disorder.
