Kolkata: The state Food and Supplies department has introduced a special Ramzan package for the people of the state.
Oil, sugar, flour and grams (chola) are being provided at a much subsidised rate for the beneficiaries under Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) and State Priority Ration Cards (SPHH.)
The special package will be provided in two phases- the first will be from May 15 to 31, while the second phase will be from June 1 to June 15. According to a senior official, the beneficiaries in each phase can have 1 litre of mustard oil, 500 gm of sugar, 500 gm of grams, and 500 gm of sugar. The price for oil will be Rs 91 per litre, price for sugar will be Rs 30 per kg, grams for Rs 46 per kg and flour for Rs 18 per kg. The subsidy will be provided for flour, sugar and grams while the price of oil will be more or less same as the market price. "The Mamata Banerjee government has been providing this special package during the Puja days for the last few years marking the occasion of Durga Puja, Kali Puja and Chatth Puja," a senior official of the state Food department said.
The state Food department has also decided to overhaul the food distribution system in the state by roping in more dealers and distributors. Since January 27, 2016 when Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had launched Khadya Sathi project in Bengal, there has hardly been any addition in dealers and distributors in the state. "We have been keeping a hawk eye to ensure transparency in the distribution system Whenever there has been any complaints of irregularity, we have conducted a probe and have even gone to the extent of terminating licenses of dealers or distributors, whoever has been found guilty," a senior official said.
