Five minor inmates escape from welfare home

Five minor inmates of a state government-run welfare home for women in Malda escaped on Tuesday night. Four out of 9 minor inmates were caught by the security guards while they were trying to escape.

Among the five, who fled from the home, one was a Bangladeshi national. Police started an investigation.

Those minor inmates escaped the home late Tuesday night after climbing to the rooftop. They jumped from the boundary wall of the roof with the help of saris. Two of them received injuries after they fell on the ground from the roof.

The Malda district administration acknowledged that five minors had fled the home.

The district administration received allegation that the home at Baluchar under the jurisdiction of Englishbazar police station can barely accommodate about 30 inmates, but around 80 girls of different age groups were forced to reside there.
