Kolkata: Five books penned by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will be the hot favourite at the International Kolkata Book Fair at Salt Lake Central Park which will be inaugurated on January 30.
The books are titled Rudraksha, Sishubela and Amar Nabajanma. Amar Nabajanma is a collection of essays based on the current socio-political scenario. Sishubela is a collection of rhymes for children. In the preface, Banerjee writes that in Bengali there are few books on children's rhymes primarily because of which she had to take up the initiative to compose rhymes for them.
Sudhangshu Kumar Dey of Deys said two other books whose titles are yet to be determined are on essays. The manuscripts of three books were received recently and now printing and binding are in process.
"It is really amazing that despite such busy schedule, the Chief Minister has taken out time to write on different topics which include political treatise and rhymes for children." With these five books, titles written by Banerjee will reach 70. Her first book Upalabdhi sold more than 50,000 copies. Manusher Joy, Anashan Kano, Kanyar chokhe Kanyashree and Sera Mamta are very popular among the readers. Kathanjali, a collection of poems for children, was published in 2017.
It may be mentioned that Calcutta University has conferred honorary DLit to Banerjee for her contribution to Bengali literature. The Chief Minister spends her leisure writing essays and poems, painting sketches, listening to music and playing the electric organ.
