Fire breaks out in NRS canteen

A fire broke out in the canteen of the NRS Medical College and Hospital on Thursday morning triggering panic among the patients and their relatives.

Four fire tenders were pressed into action to douse the flame. Around 7.30 am, some of the staff members of the hospital spotted smoke billowing out of the canteen. They tried to douse the flame but faced difficulties in reaching the spot due to thick smoke. After being informed, the fire tenders were swung into action. They brought the situation under control by extinguishing the blaze.

According to the preliminary investigation, it is suspected that the fire might have been caused due to the bursting of a cylinder. However, the actual cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are yet to be ascertained. No one was reportedly injured in the incident.

In a separate incident, a fire took place at an iron factory at Liluah in Howrah on late Wednesday night. Local residents found that thick smoke was billowing out of the factory. After being informed, four fire engines rushed to the spot.

Preliminary investigation suggests that a machine inside the factory on Gosala road of Liluah might have caught fire. The fire personnel are also suspecting that an electrical transformer might have exploded. The fire was brought under control after around two hours. The local Councillor also reached the spot and supervised the situation.
