Fire breaks out at Ultadanga printing factory

A fire broke out at a printing factory at Ultadanga late on Sunday night. No casualties or injuries have been, however, reported in the incident as the factory remained closed when it caught fire.
The incident, however, created panic among the local residents as the area is densely populated. Local people on Guru Das Dutta Road near 14 number bus stand area of Ultadanga spotted smoke billowing out of the factory that was closed at the time of the incident.
The local residents initially tried to enter the factory to extinguish the fire but failed to do so as it was locked
from outside. Following this, the locals informed the matter to the fire brigade. Eight fire tenders were pressed into action to douse the flame. The fire personnel reached the spot and entered the factory by breaking open the front door of the factory.
They spotted the source of the fire and doused the flame within two hours. The local people said that the fire soon spread to other parts of the factory. The factory was completely gutted in the fire.
As the area is situated in a congested area, locals started panicking. The residents of a nearby slum started fleeing from the spot. Tension spread among the local slum-dwellers many of whom deserted their houses as the fire soon spread in the area. Police and fire brigade are investigating how the factory that remained closed caught fire. A forensic team will visit the spot to collect samples.
According to the preliminary investigation, the fire department suspects that there was no adequate firefighting mechanism in the factory. The fire department officials also suspect that inflammable materials were stored inside the factory that aggravated the situation. Police and fire brigade have started a detailed probe. The owners of the factory are being interrogated.
