Fire breaks out at Haematology department in CMCH, none hurt
Kolkata: A fire broke out at the Haematology department of Calcutta Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) on early Monday morning triggering panic among patients. No injuries have been reported yet.
Three fire tenders swung into action to douse the flames. The hospital staff members managed to bring the situation under control before the fire engines reached the spot. Security personnel spotted smoke billowing out of the Haematology department.
While the hospital authorities called up the fire brigade, some of the electrical employees of the hospital rushed to the spot.
They tried to identify the source. No major damage occurred due to the fire but panic stricken patients were seen running away from the rooms situated inside the Haematology department. Smoke covered some of the rooms at the department.
Fire department officials later reached the spot and started a probe. According to the preliminary investigation, the fire department officials suspect that an electrical short circuit might have caused the fire. A probe has been initiated. A senior official of the CMCH said it was small and no damage had
taken place. The alertness of the hospital staff helped in bringing the situation under control before the fire officials arrived at the spot.
An investigation would be carried out to find out if there were any lapses.
